The History of Sunnydale and Hope SF
Sunnydale, a vibrant and diverse community, has a rich history marked by resilience and community spirit. Built in the mid-20th century, Sunnydale has been home to generations of families who have cultivated strong bonds and a deep sense of belonging.
Sunnydale is also a key part of the Hope SF initiative, a comprehensive revitalization project aimed at transforming public housing communities across San Francisco, while prioritizing current residents, to create thriving, mixed-income neighborhoods.
After years of community visioning, Sunnydale is in the middle of a transformative construction plan that will create new homes, streets, parks, amenities for youth and families, and neighborhood-serving retail that supports small business opportunities. At the heart of the transformation plan is the belief that a key to family success is affordable homes in safe neighborhoods where residents are supported to learn, play, and grow. The Hub plays a crucial role in this initiative, serving as a central point for resources, programs, and support.
The development of The Hub is made possible by a long-term public/private partnership led by Mercy Housing California, Related California, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, Wu Yee Children’s Services, the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD), the HOPE SF Initiative, San Francisco Housing Authority (SFHA), and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the residents and community advocates of Sunnydale whose collective vision for change in their neighborhood has paved the way for this project. The Hub reflects your dreams and efforts, and we are honored to continue this journey together.
